These days everyone wants to lose weight, detox their bodies or simply get healthier; wherever you are on your journey to health, you owe it to yourself to try one of these good diet plans. Raw food diets are a refreshing change from other online diet plans. A raw food diet involves eating only fresh, unprocessed and uncooked foods.

People who follow this diet do so because they believe that essential enzymes in food are destroyed once the food is heated above 116 degrees Fahrenheit. A raw food diet is also believed to increase energy, improve digestion, aid in weight loss and reduce the risk of heart disease that is commonly caused by fatty foods.

While most people using a raw food diet follow a vegan lifestyle, some eat a vegetarian diet and others include raw meats such as sashimi. A raw food diet is generally made up fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, sprouted seeds and grains, dried fruit and juices, rolled or flaked grains, herbs and spices. Some people add cooked grains and legumes, good quality fish and poultry (although a number "raw food-ers" are strict vegans).

People on this kind of diet generally set a minimum goal of at least 75% raw foods and 25% or less cooked food. Many achieve an average of 90% raw food. Foods that can be eaten to satisfy the 75% portion include fruits (fresh and dried), vegetables, sprouts, nuts, seeds and fresh juices. Soy products do not feature prominently in the RFD as is often the case in alternative or vegetarian diets.

Eating a raw food diet means avoiding all processed, unnatural foods and sugars. This alone has proven to be very helpful in any weight loss diet, making it one of the main weight loss aids in this diet. Eating only natural, raw foods also helps the body to adapt to a more natural way of eating and reduce or eliminate cravings for unhealthy foods and snacks. The high amounts of vitamins and minerals received through eating fresh fruits and vegetables also helps the body to better digest foods and provide higher amounts of energy. This can be helpful in allowing people to exercise more efficiently.

The raw food diet was voted second best weight loss diet according to a diet ranking contest performed by usnews.com health department. The diets were rated by a group of 22 experts that included nutritionists, dieticians, doctors, health professionals and weight loss researches.

The study took about 6 months and examined 20 diets on how effective they are in losing weight in the short term, how easy they are to follow, how safe they are and how they can help you maintain your weight in the long term.
